Why Solar Panels Can't Be Used Directly
First, the working principle of solar panels
Solar panels are the core equipment of solar photovoltaic power generation, and their working principle is to convert light energy into electrical energy through the photovoltaic effect. From a physical point of view, three different material layers inside the solar panel generate positive and negative charges, which can form a current output when the circuit is connected.
Second, why can't it be used directly?
Although solar panels can convert sunlight into electricity, they cannot be used directly for charging or power supply for the following reasons:
1. Unstable current and voltage
The current and voltage output by the solar panel are affected by factors such as the surrounding environment and light intensity, and the unstable output will cause damage to electrical equipment, and if there is no charge controller, it may also cause the danger of burning equipment such as batteries.
2. Counterflow problem
When the voltage of the solar panel is greater than the battery pack voltage, the solar panel will draw electricity from the battery pack, and the countercurrent will cause harm to the battery and other equipment.
3. Poor practicality
The output energy of the solar panel is usually direct current, and if it is to be converted to alternating current, an additional converter needs to be connected. As a result, the cost increases significantly and the practicality suffers.
Third, the solution
In order to solve the problem that solar panels cannot be used directly, people propose several solutions:
1. Charge controller
The charge controller is a regulator that connects the solar panel and the battery pack, which can solve the problem of unstable solar panel output current and voltage, and also prevent countercurrent.
The inverter is a device that converts the direct current output by the solar panel into alternating current, which can make the output of electric energy more practical.
3. Voltage regulator
A voltage regulator is an electronic device that converts an unstable voltage into a stable voltage, which can make the output voltage of the solar panel stable without causing damage to electrical equipment.
Although solar panels are the core equipment of solar power generation systems, they cannot be used directly. Problems such as countercurrent, current and voltage instability need to be solved by charging controllers, inverters, voltage regulators and other equipment. With the continuous advancement of science and technology, it is believed that the solutions to these problems will become more and more perfect.
